Coffee so cold it's hot: South Korea's love of iced Americano
[WHY] It's cold in Korea. Why is everyone drinking iced americanos?
Read the first article some time back with slight interest.
Found it again while googling iced americano because I finally found a coffee I can drink without sugar and milk. BUT
Iced americanos, however, are also a drink that minimizes the flavor of the coffee. Because human taste becomes less sensitive as the temperature decreases, the same cup of coffee, brewed with the same coffee bean, will taste weaker when made into an iced americano over a hot one.
Cafes can also save a few bucks by going with a stronger blend, as stronger blends often hide the natural flavor of the beans and focus more on the bitter taste, according to Prof. Lee. The bitter taste works fine for people looking to find a quick caffeine boost, but not for anyone who wants coffee as a complex and thoughtful drink.
Also features in one of my favourite songs last year, I-Dle's Fate:
All day long, with an iced americano in hand,
I'm dead tired. (translation source)
