Day 1: Shigesato Itoi Interview
The tendency to hesitate over our decisions is one of our most human qualities. We have many opportunities to think, and sometimes, we fail. This is what I find so fascinating.
Picking up a Hobonichi Techo is like purchasing a ticket to doing something in the next year. Like passports that are valid for one year, our techos contain the future. When we talk about things we want to do and what we want to become, our hopes become destinations. If no specific action to “do” comes to mind right away, it’s also okay to simply “be.” When we use “to be” to mean “to exist,” it’s still a verb that denotes an action.
This can mean simply cherishing what’s right in front of you, like what you did today or who you spoke to. You could also just try scribbling some dots or circles. Don’t force yourself to set goals. With any luck, your hopes will find their way onto the page.
We created the Plain Old Acorn Charm as a gift to those who purchase the 2027 edition of the Hobonichi Techo on the Hobonichi Store. Acorns are said to be symbols of growth — a lucky motif. A mighty oak tree in its entirety is contained within each tiny acorn. This is the kind of hope for the future that our gift to you embodies.
No one is watching to see how much an acorn that fits in the palm of your hand has grown today, and the acorn itself has no idea, either.
When we first created the Hobonichi Techo, we didn’t think it would last this long, nor did we ever imagine it would gain popularity overseas. We weren’t thinking about how things might eventually come to an end. Instead, we just kept going. Rather than always moving ahead with certainty, we spent our time enjoying what was right in front of us, like children do when they run around in the park.

Actively trying to stop myself from buying new covers, but this is so tempting. Just glad that it's an exclusive!? Wouldn't mind those Drawer Pouches, Weeks and stickers though.
